Hangout Music Fest 2016

On May 20-22, 2016, music lovers and artists alike will gather at Gulf Shores, Alabama, for the Hangout Music Festival. A variety of musical artists will be performing including Calvin Harris, The Weeknd, Florence + The Machine, Alabama Shakes, and Ellie Goulding.

Hangout Music Festival was founded in 2010 by A.J. Niland and Shail Zislin in production with Huka Entertainment. The event takes place on the third weekend of May every year and features diverse genres of music that appeal to a large audience. In 2015, the festival began to be produced jointly with Goldenvoice, the producer of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Attendance at the festival has normally been capped at 35,000 to 40,000 people.

Tickets for 2016 festival became available on Thursday, November 19, 2015. General admission for the event is $249, VIP passes cost $1,099, and Super VIP passes are $1,599.

Hangout Fest is a multifaceted experience. On the beach, guests can rest at Hammock Beach, crack open a beer at Craft Beer Backyard, and ride the ferris wheel and Mega Drop. The venue also features a wedding chapel!

Information about travel, places of accommodation, and shuttles are available on the website.

According to the festival organizers,  the festival sold out in 2014 and had an estimated $31 million economic impact on Gulf Shores and the surrounding areas.

Guests must be ages 18+ to attend the event. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21.

Hangout Music Fest happens rain or shine.

“Because we have concerts from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., the beach lends itself to early morning shows or after-hour shows, so that when you’re not listening to music, you can go lay on the beach and enjoy the outdoors, which is a vacation in and of itself. The beach definitely helps us in that we’re seeing more artists hanging around for the weekend, which will help us later down the road. We always want fans and patrons and artists to be able to enjoy themselves together.”

“Being at the Hangout festival is unlike any other festival experience that exists in the United States. One of the best parts about the summer for those littoral folk is going to the beach with your feet in the sand, relaxing to the soothing sounds of the ocean and getting lost in introspection. Hangout was able to embody this spirit as well as provide a variety of acts that spanned from old school favorites to newer more electronically based music that is proving to be more than just a fad.”
